The first Nottingham Classic Tour ran in 1990, an event requested by the City Council to replace the Norwich Union RAC Classic that had started in Nottingham several times in the eighties. The very first ever Norwich Union Classic ran from Newstead Abbey to Silverstone. The route was coordinated and marshalled by Carlton & District Motor Club, who by now had become synonimous with major motor sport events in the city following two highly succesful years 1985 and 1989, running the start and finish of the Lombard RAC Rally. Our tenth event will take place on August 10th 2008.

Carlton & District Motor Club was formed in 1963 and remains a traditional sporting motor club. Affiliated to the Royal Automobile Club Motor Sports Association, the club is well known for providing the marshalling expertise that ensures other events flourish. As well as the Nottingham Classic Tour, the club organises the Huntsman Endurance Road Rally and the Sherwood Classic Tour. We also have associations with the Pre War Austin 7 Club, organising their annual half day road run from Wollaton Park, and we enjoy a close link with the Heritage School in Clowne Derbyshire lending adminstrative support and advice for their annual Tour of the Peak Classic Road Run.

Recently we have developed interests in the restoration and upkeep of vehicle manufactured in Nottingham. In 2007 the Club entered its first ever team in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (download newsletters 7 and 8 for features and articles).

With members boasting years of experience, we strive to offer efficiently run events representing great value.
